Match the treatment to isolated mounds or broader fire-ant pressure across the property.

One mound is easy to notice, but recurring fire-ant pressure can involve colonies that are less obvious or not currently building a prominent mound. That is why the right treatment approach depends on whether the problem is a few isolated colonies or activity spread across a larger part of the property.
Mound treatment and area-wide control are different tools
Individual mound treatments are designed to address specific active colonies. Broadcast approaches are used over a wider area and can target colonies that may not be obvious from the surface. Depending on the property, pest pressure and product label, a fire-ant program may use one approach or a combination.
Baits and contact treatments also behave differently. Baits depend on foraging ants carrying the material back toward the colony, so weather, timing and ant activity can affect how they are used.
Why fire ants can return
Fire-ant control reduces colonies on the treated property, but surrounding untreated areas can be a source of reinfestation over time. Good control is therefore about managing the property intelligently rather than promising that ants can never appear again.
What helps us recommend a treatment
